Planning to choose sonography as your career? However, you are confused as to whether it is the right choice or not? I am sure that there are many people in this world who have so many questions on their mind about sonography. Put your nerves to rest now as you are going to get answers to most of your questions on sonography here.

Believe me sonography is a very fast-growing healthcare career. Besides, if you are someone who loves technology and science then you cannot find a better choice than this. The best part is that you can also earn some income with sonography while helping others. What does a sonographer actually do? Is it your question now? A sonographer uses sound waves to produce the images of different body parts like abdomen and etc.

They also provide video or images of the scanned body parts to a doctor, which helps in finding the underlying health issues. Sonography helps in different diseases like heart diseases, liver problems, kidney stones, stroke, gallstones and problems related to male and female reproductive organs.

How to become a sonographer?

You will have many education paths when it comes to sonography. In fact, you can join a 1-year course or a 2-year course or a 4-year course according to your requirement. A bachelor’s degree in sonography is something that most of the employers look at when hiring. There are many people who think that the opportunities will be less when they choose one- or two-year certification programs. However, this is not at all true. It is your knowledge that matters here. There are employers who provide on job training by hiring candidates who have successfully completed their certification programs.

What about the job security?

Sonographers have a great demand in the market these days. This demand continues in future as well because of the kind of work they do. Moreover, the job security is very high when it comes to sonography.  Hence, you can stay relaxed now by choosing sonography as your career. Sonography is also one field that gives you an opportunity to learn something new every day. Every patient is a new experience. So, there is no chance of getting bored with your work when you choose to become a sonographer.

Another advantage of becoming a sonographer is that you need not stay at your desk always like a software employee. You will have several tasks to perform when you become a sonographer like arranging the equipment, performing the tests using sound waves and preparing the reports.

Will I have rotational shifts?

Most of the sonographers generally do 8 hours shift in a day. When it comes to shifts, it all depends on the clinic timings. For example, if the clinic for which you are working is open only during the day time then you will be asked to do morning shift mostly. Similarly, if your clinic is open round the clock then you may have night shifts as well. However, it all depends on your employer requirements.
